Thank you parents for all of your help preparing the students for the M-Step this week. They were awake, alert, and ready to show what they knew! I was so proud of them. This week we will take the ELA (mostly Reading) portion of this test starting on Wednesday. Depending on how long the test takes, we will finish it on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday afternoon. Then, we are finished! Good work third graders!

We had such a busy day on Friday! The students took the M-Step test in the morning. We had an assembly in the afternoon. A Brass Quintet from Easter Michigan University came to perform for us and teach us about their instruments. We all enjoyed our Extra Recess Incentive outside in the sunshine after the assembly. Also on Friday, Nick and his mom brought in strawberry plants for each student and teacher in the class! How kind and generous! We hope you wait until the frosty nights are over to plant them at your house. But remember to water them and keep them in the sunshine!
Our class will take the M-Step test in the Computer Lab this week on Thursday and Friday. Both days will be Math tests. Neither days will have timed tests. Students have been introduced to the tools they can use on the computer and are also being encouraged to use scrap paper during each problem on the test. While we don't want to put added stress or pressure on the students, it is important to prepare them in ways we can control. Please help them to get a good night's sleep on Wednesday and Thursday night. Please help them to eat a healthy breakfast and come to school on time and alert these mornings. If you would like to see sample items on the M-Step please visit this page: https://wbte.drcedirect.com/MI/portals/mi/. Students have completed both the Math and the English Language Arts sections of these sample items at school. Our job now is to remind them they have the confidence and skills to do their very best!
The students have been loving the warmer weather for Recess. We now have some basketball nets on our basketball court and some students are bringing in their own basketball to play. That is a-ok! Feel free to send in other playground equipment as long as your child knows he needs to share and he is responsible if anything happens to it (like it getting stuck on the roof!)
Last Friday we tweeted about our favorite outdoor activity. We also graphed and "analyzed" our favorite outdoor things to do! Later, we made Earth Day collages and pledged to take care of our earth. We are so proud of the students!
On Friday before break, our principal, Mr. Kondziolka, read us Jumanji. The students enjoyed comparing it to the movie and predicting what would happen next!
If you can find a few minutes each day, try to complete our Spring Break Homework.... all you have to do is set the timer (5 minute, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, your choice....) and write! At least 5 sentences each day must be completed to get your prize!
